It was a beautiful weekend here in Alabama but a little too chilly for this girl to get on back of a bike. So we hit the yard and took care of some much needed weeding and trimming. The front bed was full of weeds and leaves and the mulch needed to be refreshed. We worked on it for a little while Saturday and then most of the day today. We still aren’t through but we’re getting there. The problem is that I can hardly move. Every muscle and bone in my body hurts. We hit the hottub and that helped and I’m on the heating pad and it feels good but when I get up, boy do I feel it. Thank goodness we are paying someone to do the big work in the backyard. I just don’t think we’re able.
I was so tired last night, I completely forgot to post. So here’s yesterday’s meals. For breakfast I had some of the sausage that I made Friday night. It has a different flavor than I’m used to and I’m wondering if it’s the fennel. Next time, I will use more sage and no fennel. I ended up not eating lunch because time got away from me and I knew we were going out to eat at Konomi’s Japanese Steak House. I had 2 soups and no salad because I figure that ginger dressing probably has sugar. I got extra rice and no noodles so I could stay away from the gluten. I brought 1/2 the rice home and most of the chicken. I realize the rice is not paleo friendly but as I’ve mentioned before, I’m ok with occasionally going off of it just in order to stay sane and live life normally. I had a drink before we left (kombucha and vodka) and drank water only. So all in all, not too bad if you ask me.
Today I had more sausage and a banana pancake that I’ve read so much about. I smeared a little ghee on it and a tad bit of maple syrup and it wasn’t too bad. Lunch was leftovers from last night. My heartburn has been so bad today and I was so exhausted from all the yard work, we decided to just make due for supper with what we had in the house. I ended up not doing anything for fear it would make my heartburn flare up again. Heartburn is good but my tummy is letting me know it’s empty. It’s 9:30 though. I’m not listening.
I read up on what foods can cause heartburn and garlic is at the top of the list. Onion too. There’s also black pepper, citrus, alcohol (especially red wine), coffee and tomatoes. So there’s another reason to stop drinking alcohol. Coffee would be a tough one. I only drink one cup a day so I’m not going to stress it. I will try and avoid the rest though.
I almost forgot to mention, we took our foster dachshund, Macy, to her forever home. Her new mom has been in touch with me a few times today and she is settling in. A great weekend is now over.
Thank goodness this work week is finally over!! Have I mentioned I don’t like the time change? I actually woke up on time this morning but I was still dragging all day. And I’ve just had such a hard time staying focused and on task. Maybe I can get my internal clock straightened out this weekend.
I took that Prilosec last night and surprisingly, I’ve been hurting pretty bad all day and tonight. I came home from work and took some coconut oil and again when we got back from eating dinner and I will take some more before bed. I hope that isn’t a bad thing. I’ll look it up tomorrow. I would think it’s just the calories that aren’t good. I just wonder why it’s so bad all of a sudden. I was doing so good. I wonder if I waited too long to take one.
Breakfast today was bacon and eggs again. I made my breakfast sausage tonight with ground pork, fennel, thyme, sage, salt, pepper, garlic and maple syrup. The recipe called for coconut sugar but I thought maple syrup would be better. I’m hoping I can ripen some bananas before tomorrow morning so I can have some banana pancakes. Those that I have in the freezer from Young Living Gluten Free mix just don’t do it for me. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to breakfast. Lunch was leftover spaghetti and 3 cookies I bought yesterday from Organic Harvest. They are paleo friendly but I know they still aren’t good for me. They are just so good though! We met our friends out for supper at the bowling ally. Sounds weird but it’s a really nice place and the food is delicious. I had salmon, broccoli and fries and a glass of cabernet. The wine made my nose turn red and I was all stopped up. When will I accept the fact that I can’t drink wine anymore?
Time for sweet dreams. Night all!
We went to Outback Steakhouse with friends last night and didn’t get home until late so I didn’t have time to do my post. But for breakfast it was bacon and scrambled eggs. The hubby met me for lunch at a southern diner. I normally get their fried green tomatoes because they are absolutely out of this world. Actually, they’re from the same restaurant that Fanny Flagg’s movie, Fried Green Tomatoes, is from. But I just had greek chicken, green beans and collards. Always good food there but can be kind of pricey for just a meat & 3. At Outback, I had salmon, mixed vegetables and a sweet potato.
I also had a couple of glasses of wine. This morning I had a headache and felt like pooh all day so I might as well have drank the whole bottle. Again I say, I just need to quit drinking wine. It just seems to be the lesser of evils when going out because of sugar in everything else.
I weighed this morning and I’m down another .07. Woohoo! The pants I wore yesterday were really loose and I may not be able to wear them again. For breakfast I had bacon and fried eggs. Lunch was a fried burger with onion and sweet potato fries. There’s just something about burgers these days. They’re always dry and just not good. I even had him not cook it as long and it was still dry.
Tonight we went to eat at some other friend’s house (the ones that we threw the party for last weekend) and we had grilled lambchops. As far as I can remember, that’s the first time I’ve had lambchops. Our friends are from South Africa and so I’m not sure if the dry rub seasoning is something from South Africa or something they learned here. Whatever it is, it’s fantastic. They have a different taste to them but in a good way. And the grill is called a braai (pronounced bry). She also had a salad, fries and beans. I skipped the beans. The fries were really good too. They had the same seasoning on them as what was on the meat. No alcohol tonight. I took kombucha and some vodka but I drank one of the kombucha’s and never added any vodka. Just wasn’t feelin’ it.
Day light savings time tonight. It’s 11:14 which means it’s really 12:06. Way past my bedtime.
Yay for the weekend! I enjoyed time tonight with sweet friends. We went to Chili’s for our friend, Gloria’s, birthday. I was able to find a sirloin with grilled avocado and a fresco salad (whatever that is). Whatever it is, it finally added spinach back to my diet so we’ll see how that goes. I don’t expect it will do anything but I should know soon enough. I also had one glass of wine. Seems to be a theme these days.
I woke up with a headache this morning. I took some Excedrin but it never quite went away until later in the day when I took 2 more Excedrin. I only had 1 glass of wine but it was Barefoot and I’m not a fan and that could be why. But that’s pretty much why I only had one glass tonight. I didn’t want to feel bad tomorrow.
I’ve got heartburn tonight but I can’t take my Prilosec tomorrow so I hope it goes away. In hindsight and after saying that out loud, that’s another reason why I shouldn’t have drank that glass of wine tonight. I know it doesn’t help it. I’ll take some coconut oil and hope that gets rid of it.
For breakfast I had bacon and scrambled eggs. Lunch was Organic Harvest again. This time I had roast and carrots, herb roasted cauliflower and creamed kale. I didn’t eat much of the kale though. I realized I didn’t check the sneeze guard to see whether it was paleo or not. Wondering if it had dairy in it. I also bought a couple of paleo cookies. They were divine!!
Heading off to bed. Busy day tomorrow.
Well, another month down. I won’t weight until tomorrow though. I always weigh on Wednesday for some reason. I haven’t lost very much yet and I’m sure it won’t be much more this week but I guess any loss is better than nothing.
I’ve been really exhausted today. Even more than usual. I woke up once with my oxygen cannula on my forehead and there’s no telling how long it had been there. I also had a slight headache when I first woke up so I’m guessing it was for quite a while. I’ve also had trouble with brain fog a lot lately. Not understanding stuff and forgetting what I’m doing. I haven’t really been cheating that bad and I haven’t added anything new back so it’s kind of weird that I would be experiencing all this.
Today I had sauteed apples and pecans for breakfast and 2 hard boiled eggs. We finally found the sugar free bacon tonight at Publix in a different city. For lunch I had leftover chicken and I made fresh sweet potato fries at work. Tonight we went out with friends and had all you can eat steamed shrimp. I also had new potatoes and green beans. I was smart and remembered to take some sugar free ketchup and I asked for horseradish and made my own cocktail sauce. I took some ghee and got them to leave butter off of my potatoes. Doing things like that makes me feel like I’m not having to compromise all the time. I just have to plan ahead. Oh, I almost forgot. I had 2 glasses of wine.
We had a busy day today but I managed to stay on plan for breakfast and lunch. I ate bacon and fried eggs for breakfast then we left a little after 8 and drove over 160 miles to get 3 puppies into the rescue that I volunteer for. I was tempted to eat lunch at Cracker Barrel but we came on home. I then heated up the veggies and bacon wrapped shrimp from last night and it was still good today, even heated up.
Supper was a different story. We met friends at the local sushi restaurant and I ordered off the hibachi. Teriyaki chicken with vegetables and fried rice. I don’t even want to know what’s in it. It was good and I’m not sorry. I also had a glasss of chardonnay. I’m a little bit sorry about that but only because I’m so stopped up now, I can’t breathe. But that could also be from the hot tub. After we got home from our road trip, we worked in the yard and really needed the hot tub to soothe the sore muscles. It was a little chilly and the wind was blowing a cold mist right in my face. So it could have been that. I was stopped up yesterday too and sneezing all day.
But back to the teriyaki chicken and glass of wine. I realize I can’t live my life in a bubble and when faced with a situation or an opportunity, I will roll with it. I can’t imagine turning down going out with friends because I can’t eat what is there. I’ll get back on track tomorrow and stay there. Because I can do anything!
Writing this blog was so much easier when I was counting down the days to my Whole30 being over and it’s easy now when I’ve reintroduced another food. But today, I haven’t reintroduced anything and I don’t have any symptoms and I feel decent enough. I’m tired, but what’s new?
That’s what this blog is for. It’s to document my weight loss journey and my goal to get healthy again. To find a happy place where I still enjoy my favorites but without all the bad stuff. It’s for me to track the foods I eat and see if anything affects me negativevly. It’s for me. So if you’re following me (and haven’t read my intro) and you’re wondering why I babble on about all this stuff, that’s why.
I keep thinking about having a glass of wine and I really wanted one tonight but since I can’t drink wine anymore, I drank some kombucha. I love the gingerade! I put it in a wine glass and sip on it while I’m cooking and it makes me feel normal again. I will probably have a drink or two at our Valentine party next weekend but I have to admit, it makes me nervous to think about doing it. I’m worried about having too much and then eating too much or going totally crazy and undoing all my hard work. I need to marinate on these thoughts.
I had bacon and sauteed apples and pecans for breakfast but this time I had my husband use coconut oil instead of ghee. I thought it would taste good and give me the 2 tbls of coconut oil that the doctor ordered. It did the latter but I wasn’t crazy about the taste. The apples were too tart and it just wasn’t the same. For lunch I had leftover kraut and chicken apple sausage with roasted zucchini. Supper was green beans, sauteed kale and bacon wrapped boneless chicken thighs. I found a great recipe on Pinterest that you sprinkle smoked Paprika and onion powder on the chicken and then wrap in bacon. You’re supposed to pan fry it but we grilled it. I really enjoyed it but I told my husband that next time I will use more paprika so that I can taste it. We will probably also cook as instructed instead of grilling.
That’s it. That’s all I’ve got.
